Magento 2 Enterprise Edition License Cost
This week I had to put costs together for a quote on Magento 2 Enterprise Edition website. After doing some research on the internet I was not able to find good references about it. I finally got it and now I’m sharing my notes in this article.
License Cost: Magento 1.x EE
Licenses for new installations of Magento Version 1 are not available anymore since Magento 2 has been launched last November. Existing websites using version 1.x EE will be able to renew their license for 3 years from the launch date of version 2. Then, they must upgrade their stores to M2.
License Cost: Magento 2 EE
With Magento 1 EE license fees would start at $18,000/YR and it would include Enterprise-class features, performance & support.
The license was also based on Per-Server model. Which wasn’t a great deal when you using Elastic Load Balancing instances.
In Magento 2 it has been changed into a Revenue Model. The license cost now is based on how much your store makes. You can also have as many servers you want, which is great for business using AWS Elastic Load Balancing. Below you can see the relation Revenue X License Cost X Percentage.
|Revenue (in USD)||License Cost (Year) (In USD)||Percentage|
|0 – 1M||22K||min 2.2%|
|1M – 5M||32K||3.2% – 0.64%|
|5M – 10M||49K||0.98% – 0.49%|
|10M – 25M||75K||0.75% – 0.3%|
I reckon the Percentage column is an important point here. You can see that Magento is still competitive compare with many other e-commerce platforms in terms of fees to use it.
Magento 2 also has improved it’s performance and scalability. Besides the support 24/7. You can see the full feature list here.
